For all of you stuck in an airport somewhere due to the small volcano problem here are our favourite ways to cope with flight delays. We have all heard that moan of frustration erupt from the crowd of passengers surrounding a departure gate when it is announced that a flight is delayed. We have all seen that split second (or for some - prolonged) look of panic across the faces of businessmen and parents of toddlers alike as they try to decide the best way to cope with flight delays.

Bring your skis for free this winter

Skiers heading to the slopes this year via Ryanair can bring their skis for free. But hurry - the offer closes at midnight this Wednesday - the deal saves individual passengers €80 on ski carriage. The crux? The offer is only open to the first 10,000 passengers. Ryanair’s Winter Ski Programme 2009/10 offers flights to airports in Cuneo, Grenoble, Lourdes, Salzburg and Turin - all of which are reasonably near to major  resorts.

Going East - Etain McGuckian's India diary (3)

We hopped on the night train from Patnem, which was buzzing with sari- and shirt-clad bodies, their mass of suitcases in tow. While they sat round eating curry or tending to their kids, hounding traders could be heard over the babbling, selling ice cream, magazines, chai, curry and coffee. I felt high from all the colour of activity.
