The budget and associated gloom of this ‘new’ economy may have knocked some of the Ho Ho Ho out of your Christmas so here are some gift ideas that will add some sparkle to your festive spirit while leaving the jingle in your pocket. Christmas is all about indulgence and nothing says luxury better than Butlers Chocolate.

You can still indulge for next to nothingYou can still indulge for next to nothing

They have some great gifts including Hot Chocolate at Home for €5.45, perfect for these wintry nights. Another ideal gift is Marc de Champagne Truffle Cube for €10 and for the kids Santa and Snowman pack for €5.50 (although this chocolate is too delicious to be smeared on the sofa).

Another Irish Company, Newbridge Silverware have a beautiful selection of gifts that will definitely add some sparkle to your festive season. With fabulous hanging decorations like the Silver Ceramic Teddy for €15 or Red Christmas Bauble for €20. (These come in pretty red boxes, which saves on the wrapping front) They also have a Nativity Set with a contemporary look for €25. Great Irish gifts that will become part of Christmas for years to come.

Yankee Candles are great for creating the perfect atmosphere for your family get-togethers or just to get cosy under a blanket in front of the Christmas matinee. They will fill your home with lavish aromas such as Eggnogg, Mountain Pine and my favourite Christmas Cupcake for only €18.50.

Traditional Games

The traditional board games have also made a come back this year. Games like Twister, Frustration and Operation are available from Tesco for only €11.54. So why not evoke some childhood memories, get the family together this Christmas and have some good old-fashioned craic.

For that person who has everything and has you really stuck why not get them a ticket for the National Lottery’s Millionaire Raffle, which takes place on the December 31.  Tickets are €20 and come in a presentation wallet.  With three prizes of €1m on offer just think what a fantastic New Year you could be giving…

To get twice as much pleasure from giving this Christmas why not give a charity gift from Plan Ireland where €20 buys a school desk, giving the gift of education to a child. A flock of chickens from Gorta will provide nutritious food for a family and Unicef will provide 100 doses of the measles vaccine for only €21.

Another great idea is babysitting vouchers – they are free and will be so appreciated by family and friends with little ones. The gift of a night out away from Dora and Ben10 is a gift to be cherished but be warned that it may be redeemed the one weekend you just want to yourself!

So there you have it, a guide to gifts without the guilt of the impending credit card bill looming over your holiday season. Merry Christmas!!
